Tilburg University Cantus (TUC) is an outstanding student event in the Netherlands. 1800 students come together at the Willemsplein in Tilburg to celebrate the start of the academic year.
Together with 150 guests from the university, the city council and a number of business relations, 1800 students sing, drink and party.
The cantus is a typical Dutch and Flemish event in which people are sitting at long tables and sing songs from their “codex” (which is a booklet full of well-known songs). “The praesidium” chairs the cantus and it presents the songs to be sung. At Tilburg University Cantus the praesdium is accompanied by a show band, consisting of 12 musicians.
The songs are a 50:50 mix of Dutch and English songs, so the cantus is a great opportunity to learn typical Dutch songs, as well as to sing the English songs everybody knows.
This year the cantus will take place on Monday September the 5th. The cantus will start at 7 p.m. and finish at 10.30 p.m.
